NEBOSH

The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) was established in 1979 as an awarding body with charitable status. It offers a broad range of internationally recognized certifications in occupational health, safety, and environmental management. In 2014, NEBOSH received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade, acknowledging its outstanding achievements.

NEBOSH qualifications are recognized by prominent professional bodies like the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM). Its examinations and assessments are set by qualified staff with the assistance of external examiners, many of whom are Chartered Safety and Health Practitioners or Chartered Environmentalists. These professionals work in industries, public sectors, or enforcement roles.

NEBOSH’s technical standards are maintained by a Qualification and Technical Council, with representatives from national institutions. It is an awarding body accredited by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA), which has UK-wide regulatory responsibilities. NEBOSH also holds Investors in People (IIP) status and is ISO 9001:2008 certified, reinforcing its commitment to high standards. NEBOSH certifications attract around 50,000 candidates annually, with exams conducted in over 120 countries.
